OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

We’re so grateful you’re considering pet adoption and taking the first step toward changing a life!

To help us care for our animals and give each application the attention it deserves, we kindly ask that adoption inquiries be made through the application process rather than by phone or voicemail. For specific questions, please email us.

THE PROCESS:

  1. Fill out one of our online applications (select below).

  2. Our adoption team reviews your application. The approval process will take up to 48 hours. Please note that applications may not receive final approval until veterinary history or landlord approval is obtained.

  3. If your application is approved, an Adoption Coordinator will contact you within 1 business day to begin the exciting journey of meeting your future best friend!

Please note that we do not do same-day adoptions.

Seniors over the age of 60 can adopt any senior dog for $60 and any senior cat for $30. The annual vaccines for these pets are provided at no cost to the adopter (office visit fee is adopter’s responsibility). Email acoadoption@gmail.com for more information.

FOSTER PROGRAM

Fostering an animal provides a temporary home that helps them build trust, recover from trauma, or adjust to life in a family setting. It not only saves lives by opening space in shelters, but also allows animals to thrive and find their forever homes more easily. To apply as a foster, please fill out one of our adoption applications and specify under “Name of Animal,” your fostering preference—medical foster, senior foster, or puppy foster. Please note that all animals in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.

FOSTERING

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

To honor our mission of reducing pet overpopulation, we ask that all animals currently in the home be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations (unless there is a documented medical reason) before adopting from Animal Charity of Ohio. These requirements help us ensure the health and well-being of all pets involved and must be met in order for an application to be approved.

We are always here as a resource if you need any assistance or advice regarding your new addition from Animal Charity- whether it be training, proper handling, or any behavior issues that may need addressed. We do not permit future adopters to use shock collars or any extreme methods of correcting on our animals. Many animals come from backgrounds where they were not given the opportunity to thrive so it’s important to be patient and treat them with patience and love.

The animals in our care come from the worst of the worst situations. Abuse, neglect, abandonment. Our staff works diligently to rehabilitate each animal who enters our doors. We show them love and affection, help them trust, and search for the perfect forever home for them. Your transparency on applications is pertinent in making sure the animal is perfect for your home and that you are a good fit for them. Although you may select a pet, our adoption coordinators may choose a different pet for you due to each pet’s particular requirements. Please know that we will make every attempt to find you the perfect match. We want our pets’ next home to be their last.

Thank you for choosing to adopt! We hope to find the perfect addition to your family!
